USB instruments are desgned to work in conjunction with a PC. They use the host PC or laptop to control the instrument and display the results of any data capture.

The front panel of any instrument is often the most expensive part so having this functionality reside in the PC can significantly reduce the cost of the instrument itself.

USB instruments are small and very convenient to use. They are also powered from the host PC, making them ideal for use with a laptop away from the laboratory.
