Logic AnalysersA reasonable, low cost solution to USB protocol analysis is to use a Logic Analyser with low level USB decoding capability. Data is captured in the analyser's data buffer and can be examined once captured at the packed level. Not all logic analysers have this capability but the ZeroPlus range does.
Dedicated USB AnalysersIf you are doing any serious work with v1.1 and 2.0 USB interfaces then you will need a dedicated USB analyser. The best analysers will be able to display captured USB packets and decode them into classes in real time.
If you plan to work with USB 3.0 then a dedicated analyser is a must have tool in your toolbox. The complexities of capturing USB 3.0 data are challenging and it is important to choose an analyser than will be able to fully cope with the enhanced data rates of 5Gbps.
