Introduce RS-232 connectivity to any device with the RS-232 Click Board™. RS232 is a serial communications standard, which is mostly used for industrial machines, networking equipment and scientific instruments, as well as a standard port for modems, handheld computer cradles, and many other PC peripheral devices.

RS232 Click Board™ carries a standard RS232 DB9 port and a ST3232 (MAX3232) IC. The board also incorporates a MikroBUS host socket, SMD jumpers, and a power indicator LED. It uses the MikroBUS RX (RXD), TX (TXD), CS (RTS), and INT (CTS) lines to communicate with the target board. RS232 Click Board™ supports the use of either a 3.3V or 5V power supply. It has two jumper positions to connect RTS (J2) and CTS (J3) lines to the target board.

  • Based on the ST3232 (MAX3232) IC
  • Standard RS232 port (DB9-F)
  • Jumper positions for connecting RTS (J2) and CTS (J3) lines
  • Use either 5V or 3.3V power supply
  • Simple integration
  • RoHS compliant
  • Supported by all MikroElektronika compilers

Product Details

IC/Module: ST3232 (MAX3232) IC

ST3232 (MAX3232) is a 3V IC with 2 receivers and 2 drivers. It has high data-rate capabilities and enhanced ESD (Enhanced Electrostatic Discharge) protection. It features a proprietary low dropout transmitter output stage to provide true RS232 performance from 3V to 5V supplies with a dual charge pump. It is ideal for high-speed modems, battery-powered equipment, peripherals, and printers.

SMD Jumpers

RS232 Click features has two jumper positions to connect RTS (j2) and CTS (j3) lines to the target board, if the application requires it. The third PWR SEL zero-ohm SMD jumper enables the user to switch between 3.3V and 5V power supplies.
